Dedication for New L.B. Landry School

New L.B. Landry School Dedicated

 

NEW ORLEANS - The Recovery School District is proud to announce the dedication of the all new, state-of-the-art L.B. Landry School in the Algiers community. State and local school and elected officials, alumni and community leaders celebrated the start of a new era in Landry’s history at the event, held on scheduled August 5, 2010.

 

The new L.B. Landry School  is a three-story, 210,000-square-foot building that includes  career technology labs, visual and performing arts labs and classrooms for core curriculum, six science labs, visual arts labs, rehearsal spaces for dance, choir, band and art, and a black box theater.  It includes a 650-seat auditorium, a competition gym and practice gym. The school also includes many features designed for energy efficiency including the placement of windows to maximize available sunlight, automated lights and an irrigation system that utilizes rainwater.

 

Landry opened August 12, 2010 for students in grades 7th through 10th.

 

It is the fifth new or completely renovated school completed since August 2009 and one of 23 projects in the first phase of the School Facilities Master Plan,  an unprecedented school construction program that began as a result of the devastating impact of Hurricane Katrina.
