Two phases of LEAP/GEE testing explained; information for parents of 4th and 8th grade private and parochial students planning to enroll in public schools.
LEAP/GEE testing will be administered in two phases this year. Phase 1 will be administered on March 23, 2010. For LEAP students (grades 4 and 8), Phase 1 will cover the writing component of the English Language Arts (ELA) exam and the constructed response portions of the mathematics exam. For GEE students (grades 10, 11 and eligible GEE retesters), Phase 1 will consist of the writing component of the ELA exam and the constructed response portions of the mathematics, science and social studies examinations. Phase 1 makeup testing will be March 24-25, 2010.
Phase 2, which will be administered April 12-16, will cover the remaining multiple choice portions of all tests for both LEAP and GEE. During the Phase 2 period, students will also take iLEAP (grades 3, 5, 6, 7 and 9) and LAA 2 (grades 4-11).
State law requires that 4th and 8th grade private and parochial school students planning to enter public school for 5th and 9th grade take the LEAP exam. These students must plan to take the exams during both Phase 1 and Phase 2 testing or wait until summer. Summer testing will not allow them a retest opportunity. Parents and guardians can contact any RSD school, direct operated or charter, to register for a seat to test.
