The Talented Visual Arts Program for Elementary and High Schools in the Recovery School District encompasses a wide range of materials and techniques. The program balances intensive skill-building activities with exercises to enhance creativity and imagination. The curriculum will include drawing, painting, mixed media, sculpture, ceramics and installation art. Students will participate in off-campus art activities within New Orleans, such as studio visits, museum trips and participation in public art activities.
Course Goals and Performance Benchmarks:
Creative Expression: Students will produce works of art that successfully convey a central theme based on imagery, ideas, feelings, & memories and maintain a sketchbook or journal & develop a portfolio.
Aesthetic Perception: Students will use advanced art/design vocabulary for responding to the aesthetic qualities of various works and compare & contrast multiple possibilities & options available for artistic expression.
Historical & Cultural Perspective: Students will analyze specific styles & periods of art in relationship to prevailing cultural, social, political, & economic conditions and analyze how works of art cross geographical, political, & historical boundaries.
Critical Analysis: Students will apply knowledge of design elements & principles to analyze, compare, or contrast the composition of various works of art and critique works of art using advanced art vocabulary.
Evaluation: Each student will be evaluated based their individual education program. (IEP)
Assignments and Homework: Complete class participation is essential to the personal development for artist. Every week an applied art project needs to be completed for next week critique.
