The Academic Gifted Program offers services tailored to individual students according to their Individual Education Programs (IEP) and individual interests. Enrichment activities are cross-curricular and involve academic learning projects, field trips, career exploration and development projects, guest speakers, research projects and hands-on activities.  While projects will vary depending on available resources and staff, anticipated activities include the following core areas:

 

Language Arts: publishing, creative writing, literary research and language history and evolution. 

 

Math: logic, problem solving, mathematical applications, exploration using hands-on activities, math games, calculator skills and integration of technology.

 

Social Studies: history, sociology, psychology, archeology, anthropology, entrepreneurship, ecology and political science.

 

Science: general science, electronics, biology, physics, life science, earth science, astronomy, botany, geology, ecology, chemistry, robotics and oceanography aeronautics.

 

Expectations:

  • Students will work on cluster group activities such as discussing, listening questioning, debating, speaking, and discussion leading. 
  • Students will work on projects, will experiment, will use cooperative learning, critical thinking skills, problem solving skills and will analyze and synthesize as well evaluate their own work.
  •  Open-ended discussion and imaginative play may be used to further synthesize knowledge and transfer it to new applications.
  •  Students will identify and research their areas of interest, analyze data, and present their feelings effectively.
  •  Students will maintain proper self control and etiquette while at the center.  Students will show respect to one another and to faculty members.
  •  Students will remain on task at all times.  Students who do not comply with the expectations of the center will be returned to itinerant services at their regular schools.
